What is Apple Crumble Traybake?
Apple Crumble Traybake has all the flavours of an Apple Crumble in a traybake that serves as a cold traybake or a hot dessert. The flavour is all about the Apples with a delicate cinnamon flavour. The traybake is a moist sponge oozing with delicious apples. Delicious served cold or warmed up with custard, ice cream and some caramel sauce for the ultimate dessert.
It is a deliciously moist cake flavoured with our Sugar and Crumbs Natural Flavoured Icing Sugar and Natural Flavoured Cocoa Powder.
Ingredients
- 500g Cooking Apples (like Bramley) Skinned and Cubed in bitesize pieces
- 50g Light or Dark Brown Caster Sugar
Cake
- 300g Unsalted Butter
- 300g Light Brown Caster Sugar
- 300g Self Raising Flour
- 6 Medium Eggs
Crumble
- 30g Sugar and Crumbs Apple Crumble, Cinnamon Swirl or Salted Caramel Natural Flavoured Icing Sugar
- 30g Light or dark Brown Caster Sugar
- 60g Unsalted Butter – Cold
- 120g Plain Flour
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 160c Fan, 180C Gas Mark 3. Line a 9×9 inch tin for a thicker depth or 9x13inch for a thinner slice bake with greaseproof paper.
2. Combine the chopped apples with the brown sugar and leave them aside to absorb.
3. Beat the butter until creamy then add in the sugar and beat until combined. Add the eggs altogether and beat well.
4. Fold in the flour gently and once starting to combine beat in the mixing bowl gently for no more than 30 seconds to achieve a smooth batter.
5. Add the chopped apples into the cake batter and fold in with all the juices until evenly combined.
6. Pour the mixture into the prepared tin and spread evenly. Set aside.
Crumble
7. Make the crumble topping by adding all the crumble ingredients together using your fingertips to rub them together to make a crumb.
8. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the top of the cake batter. Bake in the oven for 50-55 mins until golden and springy to the touch.
Once baked serve straight away hot or leave to cool and slice into traybake size treats.
The traybake works nicely served with custard, ice cream and or caramel sauce.
Best eaten within 3-4 days, store in an airtight container once cold.
Other options
Try adding sultanas for an extra fruity twist.
If you’re wanting to use soft fruit like raspberries, blackberries or strawberries, replace the 500g of apples with 300g of soft fruit. you don’t need to coat in sugar first.
You can use any of our natural flavoured icing sugars to compliment the fruit you have chosen. The apples work well with Salted Caramel, Apple Crumble, Cinnamon Swirl and Velvet Vanilla.
Raspberries, Strawberries and Blueberries you could choose, Velvet Vanilla, Lemon Drizzle, Orange Zest, Raspberry Ripple or Black Cherry to flavour your crumble.
